Typhoon Ragasa is causing significant disruption to production and logistics in southern China

Due to the super typhoon Ragasa in the Guangdong province and the Pearl River Delta region in Southern China, production will be affected.

The safety of our personnel in China remains priority. Extensive safety measures have been implemented by authorities, including the closure of schools, businesses, including several of our factories, in areas such as Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Dongguan, and Foshan. These closures are impacting millions of people and disrupting manufacturing and logistics operations across this key production area.

Current Status

Factories have been ordered to shut down as of the afternoon of September 23. Up to 400,000 residents in Shenzhen are being evacuated due to severe wind, rain, and flooding risks.

Major container terminals, including Yantian International Container Terminal, Shekou, and Nansha, are experiencing weather-related slowdowns. Ferry and rail services in Guangdong are suspended.

Hong Kong International Airport has announced a planned 36-hour suspension of passenger flights, with over 500 flight cancellations expected.

Forecast for upcoming days

Strong winds and heavy rainfall are forecast from Tuesday through Friday, and factory closures are expected to last at least until Thursday, September 25, depending on local conditions and safety assessments.

Port and rail operations are likely to resume gradually from Thursday, with air freight expecting the same time frame.

In terms of both factory production and logistics, backlogs and delays are to be expected, once the supply chain re-opens, with shipment delays of 4-5 days anticipated for both air and ocean freight.

How will I as a customer be affected?

We recommend planning for shipment delays of up to one week for goods originating from southern China. We are working with those factories that are affected and determining the impact on the order book. As soon as we have this information, we will share updates as this becomes available.

For critical shipments, please contact your account representative to discuss alternate routing solutions.

For new critical orders we have production options in Europe, Thailand, Taiwan and unaffected areas of China.
